Biography || When Hiram and Leroy Berry decided it was time to have a child, it was only natural that they would want the best for their future son or daughter. She was born completely out of love - her dads having screened a whole plethora of potential surrogates based on both beauty and IQ. And then, they met Shelby Corcoran - a beautiful, young woman who was fiercely passionate and who’s talent was unlike anything they had ever seen before - something they definitely wanted their future child to possess. They hired her on the spot, and after mixing their sperm in a petri dish, they took Shelby to the doctor’s and a few weeks after the procedure that was to impregnate her, they found out that the procedure had been successful. During the months to follow, the Berry’s developed a deep bond with the woman who was to be the mother of their child; even despite knowing the fact that it was probably not the best idea in the world, given the fact that their friendship would undoubtedly be very short lived. And though they trusted Shelby and had bonded quite well with her during the duration of the pregnancy, there was always the ever-present fear that she could change her mind and bow out at the last minute. But, they kept these fears under a closed lid - not wanting to do anything that could potentially ruin things between them and their surrogate. But as the end of her pregnancy came towards its end, fear got the best of Hiram and Leroy, and they hesitantly asked Shelby to sign a contract that would both permanently put Rachel in their care until she was an adult, but also that Shelby could not come in contact with their child until she reached adulthood. To their surprise, Shelby signed immediately - showing absolutely no outward signs of being upset in any way shape or form.
However, they had never once considered what would be Shelby’s actual reaction. Upon giving birth, she quite literally handed over their baby - a beautiful, bright-eyed baby girl who would be named Rachel Barbra Berry - and immediately took off; not even leaving any kind of message, or word of why she had just up and left. As confused as they were by the unexpected leave, they had their baby, and they were the happiest men in the world, as far as they were concerned.
As soon as Rachel could walk, she was enrolled in every type of performing class imaginable - vocal, dance, acting - anything and everything that could give her a competitive edge. Having both grown up as huge Broadway enthusiasts and yet never been able to make it as performers, they wanted to make sure that their daughter achieved what they never could. Thankfully, their daughter grew into one of the most passionate individuals they had ever met - her sheer determination and passion for stardom even rivaling that of her mothers. Even as she grew older and was ridiculed for both her passion for Broadway as well as her personality, Rachel never once lost sight of her dreams. Though she craved the companionship of the other people in her age group and to be popular like all the others, she never once attempted to change who she was, or lose focus on her dreams. She was in it for the long haul, and she refused to allow anything or anyone get in the way of that. If it meant risking the acceptance and love that she always longed for, then so be it.
When Rachel reached a certain age, it came to the point where her dad’s were considering potentially getting her a sibling. As content as they were with just their incredible young daughter, they could tell that being an only child was a bit lonely for her, even despite the perks it also came with. So when she turned thirteen, they surprised Rachel by telling her that she would soon have a younger brother. Though she was somewhat shocked at this sudden surprise, she was absolutely ecstatic knowing that she would have someone close to her to bond to - someone that wasn’t the juvenile middle schoolers that taunted her on a day-to-day basis. Right off the bat, Rachel and Blaine hit it off - bonding over their mutual love for Broadway and all things performing. As the years went on, the two became practically inseparable - growing older together, and facing the struggles and the stress of high school alongside one another.
Now, she finds herself portraying the wonderful Wendla Bergmann alongside Jesse, the boy she'd initially thought would truly be her Melchior Gabor, and who, now, literally is.
